General Secretary of the Islam Research Council states that some elements within Egypt are trying to deface Al-Azhar University’s reputation

General Secretary of the Islam Research Council Doctor Muhidin Afifi Ahmed said that while Islam allows for disagreements and opposing viewpoints, that some within Egypt were trying to falsely disparage Al-Azhar University’s reputation. Doctor Muhidin Afifi Ahmed highlighted the fact that Al-Azhar University has brought in over 40,000 foreign students from all over the world. The General Secretary also said that Al-Azhar University was even more highly revered outside of Egypt than within, and that certain elements in Egypt had been trying to hurt its reputation with false statements. Doctor Muhidin Afifi Ahmed did not explicitly name any person or organization.
