Iraq’s ‘Ulama’: Government reaps after arbitrary arrests

Summary: The Committee for Islamic Scholars of Iraq, known as Ulama, said that Nouri Al-Maliki’s government was responsible for the ongoing arbitrary arrests that the Iraqi citizenry has been subjected to for over a decade.

The committee issued a statement Tuesday stating that the government detained the scholar Mohamed Abbas, an Imam and preacher, and Dr. Nabil Ibrahim the head of a medical center outside the capital. The homes of several other individuals were invaded according to the committee. The statement further criticized the government’s actions calling them gross violations and crimes.
