The Shia’a Marja’s Friday speech on current events in Iraq

Summary: The Shia’a Marja’s representative Sheikh Abdul-Mahdy Al-Karbalaei addressed Iraq’s current events in his sermon Friday.

Al-Karbalaei, who is Ayatalloh Ali-Al-Sistani’s representative, called on the unity of all Iraqis in facing terrorists threatening Iraq. He also criticized politicians and their frequent appearances in the media for “further complicating” the Iraqi situation by encouraging sectarian and racist discourse.

The Shia’a cleric explained that the current challenges facing Iraq and the grave threats that infiltrate the fabric of society necessitate that all political factions and leaders unite.

Al-Karbalaei repeated previous statements by other representatives explaining that the call to volunteer in the security forces is not sectarian and is targeted at all Iraqis of all sects and affiliations to defend their country, dignity and holy sites.
