There are approximately 1.5 million Bohra Muslims in the world of which mostly reside in Mumbai, India. However, ther are 50,000 Bohras living in Kuwait. The Bohra Muslim community of Kuwait had requested the late Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed for permission to build a mosque in Kuwait at Ardhiya. The request was granted but the Technical Committee of the Municipal Council turned down their request despite the fact that the community has mosques in the Middle East in Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi. This is a disregard to article 29 of the Kuwaiti Constitution which protects the religious freedom of all communities by stipulating that, 'All people are equal in human dignity and in public rights and duties before the law, without distinction of race, origin, language or religion
