Beji Caid Essebsi’s won the Tunisian Presidential election on the campaign platform of promising to eradicate terrorism and restore security, and this has some of his opponents worried. Alaa Talbi, executive director of the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights, said that he was expecting more repression in the name of fighting terrorism. Mustapha Benahmed, a parliament member from Mr. Essebsi’s party, refuted this claim saying that the new president had no intention of reviving the old ways of the former authoritarian regime of dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.
