A cabinet headed by Prime Minister Habib Essid was approved by 166 members of the 217 seat parliament. The coalition includes members from the secular Nidaa Tounes group and the Islamist Ennahda party.
Tunisia has been a major source of jihadi fighters traveling to Syria and the new government’s plan is to combat extremism and strengthen security in order to fight terrorism. But the country also faces serious economic challenges despite growth over the past few years.
