Murtada al-Mahatwary

Dr. Murtada al-Mahatwary (1954-  ) was born in the village of Bani Asad in the northwestern Hajjah governate of Yemen.  He studied at the Scientific Institute in Mahabishah and then pursued Islamic studies at the Great Mosque in Sana’a.  In 1994, he received his doctorate from the University of Cairo in usul al-fiqh (roots of jurisprudence).  Currently, he works at the College of Shari’a and Law of Sana’a University and as the head of the Scientific and Cultural Badr Center at the Great Mosque.
