Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LJ) is an offshoot of the SSP and was formed in 1996. It has been involved in attacks against Shias as well as against foreign nationals in Pakistan. In 1997, it claimed responsibility for killing four U.S. oil workers in Karachi, in 2002 it bombed a bus killing 11 French technicians, and also carried out an attack on the International Protestant Church in Islamabad injuring 40 people. LJ is reported to have links with the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and al-Qaeda. It was declared a terrorist organization.
